Positive Impact Mini-Grant Fund

The MASBO Positive Impact Mini-Grant Fund was established to provide a positive impact in Massachusetts communities by supporting educational or recreational projects or programs that directly support students in member’s communities. Using resources of the organization (not including member fees), as well as corporate and private sponsorships, the MASBO Fund makes contributions through grant awards to support vital programs in art, music, drama, sports, science, field trips, technology and much more. The Fund is not intended to support disaster relief activities, nor supplant the obligation of a community to provide required infrastructure or essential supplies/services commonly provided by a Massachusetts school district.

In making financial grants available to organizations, the MASBO Positive Impact Mini-Grant Fund criteria include submissions that:

  • are consistent with MASBO's mission;
  • impact the school district or community organization;
  • reflect an effective and timely implementation plan for the proposed project or program;
  • incorporate responsible leadership and management of the proposed project or program;
  • connect to a previously funded MASBO Research Project (i.e. Smart Budget, Drop Out Prevention, Early Childhood).

Application Process

The grant application process will open at the September Bi-Monthly and will also be included in the MASBO Notebook. Applications are due to MASBO's Executive Director, Margaret Driscoll, at the end of November.

Recipients

Recipients will have 12 months to carry out the objectives of the grant. The receiving entity will provide a brief report at the conclusion of the project or program that directly supports students in member’s communities. Unexpended funds must be returned to MASBO. At the conclusion of the project, the District will present the project (purpose and outcomes) at a MASBO event.

Selection Process

The MASBO Audit & Finance Committee will oversee the selection process. Review of applications will occur during the month of December and recipient(s) will be notified, as will the membership, in January.

Fund Administration and Award

The MASBO Audit & Finance Committee will also administer the Fund, which shall be supported by the dedicated proceeds of one or more member-supported activities. Examples of member-supported activities include but are not limited to annual bike ride and golf mulligans. Member fees will not be used to support awards made from the PIF.

The Fund shall make a single annual award of $1,000, unless ongoing revenue supports multiple awards of $1,000, each. In any year in which annual revenues are less than the $1,000 award amount, the Fund balance will be used to make up the difference.
