Position: Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School District Treasurer

Reports To: School Committee

The District Treasurer is the chief financial custodian responsible for the proper receipt, disbursement, investment, and reporting of all funds belonging to the School District, ensuring absolute adherence to Massachusetts General Laws, District policies, and established financial practices.

  • Custody and Transactional Control: Act as the custodian of all District monies, receiving and depositing all funds. Authorize and make disbursements only upon the written warrant or order of the School Committee.
  • Cash and Investment Management: Maintain sufficient funds to cover all obligations, prepare cash flow statements, and manage the investment of school funds in accordance with state laws to maximize available revenues through sound fiscal strategies. Borrow funds as necessary, upon School Committee authorization.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Reconcile all district bank accounts monthly. Prepare and submit required financial and accounting reports to the School Committee (monthly fiscal status reports), the Department of Revenue, the Massachusetts Teacher Retirement System, and independent auditors.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Assure strict compliance with all state and federal laws pertaining to the Treasurer’s duties, including, but not limited to, M.G.L. Ch. 41 and Ch. 44.
  • Advisory and Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with the Superintendent-Director, District Business Manager, and other Business Office personnel. Advise the School Committee on fiscal policies, assessments, and the results of external audits.

Qualifications (Required & Desired):

  • Minimum of five years of successful experience in municipal, school-related, or business finance/financial management required.
  • Knowledge of state laws pertaining to Treasurer’s responsibilities (M.G.L. Ch. 41 & Ch. 44).
  • Strong Financial management skills and excellent organizational and communication abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or finance and MA Certified Treasurer status are highly desirable.
  • Must be able to provide a bond in the required sum upon entering office, with the premium paid by the School Committee.
